Prehistory Hypothesis

The Philosophy of Science

Philosophically, science is devoted to a relatively simple model of reality. It starts with the assumption that the universe can and should be represented as a physical construct. It ignores any concept that relies on non physical entities such as mind or a god. To distinguish between scientific and non scientific concepts, it requires that all descriptions of reality submitted for scientific analysis be demonstrable by a well defined repeatable experiment or, at least, by a conceivable experiment should the necessary instruments ever become available. Science relies on inductive and deductive reasoning. In the first case reaching a generalization from a set of facts and in the second, predicting an event by applying a generalization.

Science relies on intuition, a weakness since intuition arguably lies outside of the aforementioned scientific model. Intuition supplies an idea which is developed into a hypothesis inductively and then into a theory deductively. Theories become virtual facts after enough experimental evidence supporting the theory accumulates. This is a subjective determination accomplished by a sufficient number of credentialed scientists. I will now present my hypothesis of human prehistory as an application of the above definition.

Hypothesis:

Human perceptions are influenced by sexual discrimination to the extent that they control cultural views of the world and this hypothesis can be demonstrated by deducing human migration patterns in prehistory and the reasons for them.

Rationale:

When, in the course of time via the changes produced by evolution, humanity achieved objective awareness, the world produced the desire in humans to explain it. This, being beyond the capabilities of rationalism then existent, called into being the god hypothesis. That hypothesis being that since the world was in no sense a product of humans, some greater power must be responsible and that power was called god. This produced a need to characterize that entity and one of the first requirements was the assignment of gender. This need split humanity into two camps, those that favored a goddess and those that preferred a god. Both camps tried to convince others that their conception was the most realistic and as time elapsed they began to flesh out, as it were, their favored deity. As an early step in this process they associated their deities with the earth in the case of the goddess worshippers and with the sun in the case of the god worshippers.

Because of this choice the god worshippers looked to the sky for help in arriving at new characteristics to associate with their deity while the goddess worshippers looked to the earth. Because of this the god worshippers preferred west as a direction of search for new places of habitation, since that was the direction that the sun followed each day. Over time this allowed for travel over water since the objects in the sky were useful for navigation. On the other hand, the goddess worshippers, since they were not comfortable with travel over water and since the easterly direction was an overland route from their original home in Africa, chose to look there for new places to inhabit. Since both groups were nomadic, looking for new places to inhabit was a frequent requirement when local game became scarce.

With these ideas in mind, and concluding that there are three primary varieties of human and three habitable places on earth in very cold times, I conclude that the non migraters occupied equatorial Africa and were predominantly though not completely goddess worshippers, the goddess worshipping migraters settled in Indonesia and attractive locations along that route, primarily river deltas such as the Tigris/Euphrates and Indus, and the god worshipping migraters made their way to Amazonia. The reason for the attraction of river deltas was the unending supply of fresh water and protein. Further migrations eventually ensued to the most logical destinations from these.

Proofs favoring this hypothesis can be had eventually by archeological digs in Amazonia, but it will require the ability to distinguish between goddess and god worshipper artifacts. If sun symbols and astronomical artifacts in general are found of a suitable age, the hypothesis will advance to the theoretical stage. The recent discovery of a Stonehenge like monument in Brazil strengthens this hypothesis. A news account can be found here:

Value:

The value of this hypothesis comes from its ability to provide the means of analyzing the nature of the most deeply rooted and alarming human conflict. After all, one cannot aim for the middle of the road if it is not known where the edges are.
